Flying buttress

Broadgate tower is built over underground railway lines from Liverpool Street Station so instead of deep foundations it sits on a concrete and steel raft  The flying buttresses are structural, not decorative.

Citrus Drops

I presume the orange one is meant to have a jagged edge.  But why? If they are fruit drops wouldn't teeth marks be more appropriate, where it has been eaten?
